Very nice shot; I like how you haven't lost the detail in the shadows under the eaves, and that nothing is really overbight (the hydrant has the potential to be a real eyesore in a photo, but it's handled well here).

The red really is the focus here, almost despite the statute (which, as a statue, doesn't do much for me); I think cropping to the right of the tree would be good (as suggested below). You handled the highlights in the statute well; they're highlights, but not too bright. Hope you're feeling better soon!

Day 7: "Old Bridge"

Excellent shot; I love the lines of the bridge. The light on the structure to the left of the bridge is a bit distracting, but not too much. I might also have tried to move down past the tree (which breaks the start of the bridge's lines), but that might not have worked at all!

Drive Day 9

Great shot; the immediacy of the drive juxtaposed with the beauty (the promise?) of what lies ahead. I love it. Did you blur out the license plate of the passing car? Oh, and this appears to be taken from the driver's seat

Thanks for the tutorial, Joe, I've tried the methods in the tutorials, but I'm still not happy with the look of my conversions. I gave this a quick try, and it's really neat; just understanding that I can layer like that is great (I tried it with hue/sat and other layers, as well, and each did something a little different, not all good, but hey, it's worth learning). Thanks for taking the time to write it up!

Another great image (whether it's showing us your town or not); would you mind giving us (ie, me) a rundown of your post processing? I love shooting B&W, but since I put down my Rolleiflex and my Graflex, I haven't really shot a B&W that I like, and part of that is down to post processing. Anything you'd be willing to offer would be greatly, greatly appreciated! I can't imagine I'm the only one who could learn something ...

A great shot, and I like it differently from Xion's; his is of the convergence of two pretty amazing things (the spire and a jet -- sorry, I still think flying is an amazing thing); yours is of the divergence of two ordinary things. Both are striking.
