This is such a sweet setup yet photographically it just doesn't quite work does it. Because there hasn't been enough light to get his hand in focus as well, it seems divorced from the action. I was playing around with it because it bugged me as to what I could suggest. Try turning it 90deg to the right - the result is quite pleasing.

Just not sharp enough to score. Also, I think the strong contrast works against this type of 'soft' subject. Moms and babies are often shot using very soft focus and sometimes soft filters.
