It must have been a very cold morning!! Not only does the human have a coat but the dog does too!! I like the strong vertical moving back and forth through the center of the image. (please excuse my spelling) I think the vinetting (corrections are welcome!) at the corners worked well with the darkness of the image to help enhance the feeling of cold. Excuse me I need to put on a jacket...for some reason it got cold in here all of a sudden! I think the horizon also helped because it anchored everything in place and brings impact to the image with the red, white, and blue. I also like the reds working together just before the intersection of the verticals and horizontals with a very pleasing effect! The blacks and reds in the vertical are also outstanding. Just a brilliant composition...very well balanced!!

I felt the background color just wasn't there although I think the choice of light background very a wise choice as the dark areas in the image would have been lost and I really do like the reds and browns in the image as they help to offset any negative aspect from the background. I also like the edging you did. I think you did an excellent job on this in the post processing!

I think you have a good image here...needs just a bit more work. The overall concept behind the composition is good; however, The horizon is too busy. I would have tried cropping part of the right side of the image and remove the last building and trees and leave just one tree on the right to balance with the trees on the left. The tree just to the right of the building at the center of image, I would have cloned out as I felt it created a distracting edge with the cloud. I think thats a stop sign just to the left of the building at center. Reminds me of a four way stop on a lone country road and a point of interest and I may have cloned out the trees next to it to make it stand out much the same as the pole next to the building just left of center. Now, having said that, I took the image into photoshop to see if any of this worked. I think removing the tree right of building at center helped and also cloning out the tree behind the building at center helped; however, cropping the right side of the image did not. I also tried increasing the curves and saturation which helped the right side of the image somewhat and did help add some impact to the clouds. One thing about the clouds I did find distracting was the blues and although the blue works well with the yellows in the horizon, I felt they pulled the eye away from the horizon. The last thing I would try is to change is the border. The white in the border kept pulling my eye away from the image and didn't work for me; however, borders like photography are very subjective. The wrong border can hurt an image in the voting. I did try the image with 2 to 5 pix black border and felt it worked better. In summary, adding some curves and saturation to the clouds with selective editing, playing with the horizon to remove distracting elements, and adjusting the border would have helped move the image up in the voting. Even though the horizon may need some minor adjustment, I also think it was the strength of the image. A very nice silouhette! IMO, just needs a little work. If you have question, please contact me through the PM system. One last word, After looking at your profile, I see good things a little down the road for you!!

DPC Critique Club.

I\'m going to side step critiquing the image for just a minute. First, Welcome to DPC! I took a glance at your profile. I would not be too concerned about the score on the two images you have entered. The important thing is to sort through the comments and decide which ones will help you and which ones won\'t and also take a look at not only the current ribbons but past winners as well. Now on to the critique.
From the comments, the main concern with the image is whether or not it fit the challenge. I\'ve seen images that are questionable as to whether or not they fit a challenge...if you have a potential blue...voters may tend to overlook that criteria; however, I\'ve learned not to chance it. With that said, I think it fits the challenge! Having grown up in the country, Swedish Meatballs are very popular. If someone that raises cattle were to look at the image...I think they would agree. I\'m just guessing here, but I think the country folk in sweden would also agree. Now on to the image. You had good backlighting on this. I think I would have used some fill lighting on the front of the meatballs to remove the shadows and bring out more detail in the meatballs. I find the dark areas of the image at the top distracting. Possibly an all white background would have worked better. I rated the overall impact of the image as poor (3 or 4 rating). Again, take a look at the first twenty or so entries and look for impact...which ones grab your attention and keep you there! This is one of my goals this year...improve the impact. I think you are on the right track after looking at the panning motion image in your profile. As for the post processing, I have no reference to what was done with the image but a noise filter may help to smooth out the gradient in the background and then come back and sharpen. I\'m not sure if this would work but it may be something to try. One thing I will give this image is that it made me awfully hungry!! It also probably made alot of the commentors hungry as well...and as we all know, when the dinner bell rings in the country, everyone comes running. Keep at it, this was not that bad an image, you\'re only three points away from a ribbon! If you have any questions on the critique, please contact me through the PM system. Again, Glad to have you on board!!

Very nice composition with angled lines and triangular shapes. I thought your color choice was also very good! I gave it an eight.

I like the colors and the shapes in the image...especially the sail fish. Of course if you don't see the sail fish, there's always the DNA molecule. It's amazing what the eye can come up with when it has a calm serenity to pass through and takes its time in the journey. Just a great job!! I gave it an 8.
