Hot Pixel Bluesby hblakeComment: Originally posted by Aphroditebaby: how do you black everything out around your subject in both the burner and the globe picture? |
In both cases, it was nighttime. For the burner, I took the picture outside. For the globe picture I turned out the lights. I may have used a black cloth as a background (I think I did) but it's been some time since I took that picture, and I'm not sure about that, but I'm pretty sure I did.
I went to a store with cloth (yardage store?) and found some black material. I tried to get the flattest, blackest material they had.
Generally, I use the black material to mask anything distracting in the background.
That's about it.

Entrenchedby neophyteComment: This is good, but I thiink it would have been better with more light cast on the grill/front. |

Paper Paper Paper Paperby GraciousComment: So is this the NBC peacock? :-)
Look at the edge effect on the yellow--that's quite an artifact. It makes it look more blurred than it actually is. In any case, I think it could have used a wee bit more DOF. |

Fleur Azureby BigSmilesComment: I don't care for the composition. Maybe the flower should have been in the lower third of the picture. |
