I would have liked this a lot more if the lighting was better. I really like the composition, though. (To me, good lighting means "spend lots of money." Wish I could.)

Post challenge:

Well, I guess the lighting deal didn't really matter! Congratulations on your win!

Interesting image, but for me it's too dark on the right side and there is not enough detail in the vertical object.

I think the DOF was a bit too shallow for this image.

This is very interesting, but the texture of the egg is washed out. Also, it appears that the egg came straight out of the fridge, and had condensation on it, which further detracts from the egg texture that should be present.

I wish there was a small gap between the trees. They seem run together in this shot, and I think it detracts from the overall image you are presenting.

The background is a bit too busy for me.

In both cases, it was nighttime. For the burner, I took the picture outside. For the globe picture I turned out the lights. I may have used a black cloth as a background (I think I did) but it's been some time since I took that picture, and I'm not sure about that, but I'm pretty sure I did.

I went to a store with cloth (yardage store?) and found some black material. I tried to get the flattest, blackest material they had.

Generally, I use the black material to mask anything distracting in the background.

That's about it.
