I don't like the shadow effect. It leads to confusion for the eye, especially around her face (where does her face end? where does the shadow begin?) It's a tad out of focus and the rings are distracting.

I really like it. The difference in skin tones is interesting. A little too harsh on the toddler's head. I know these are family members (at least I'm guessing), if we were going for mass appeal (instead of an intimate family portrait), I'd choose a smaller child who overwhelms his/her mother. I'm not going to hold that against you though. Well done. 8.
