Nice composition and lighting, but I'd like a bit deeper depth of field. The two presentations of 9 is nicely creative. This one I will go 6. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Camera Work/Technical: Awesome. I love the detail of the petals that fade into a very interesting, blurred background. The colors of the flower play very well against the browns and greens in the background. Well seen and well executed.
Lighting: Flawless. Whites on flowers are difficult to expose right. Nice work, especially considering the detail in the browns that you still captured.
Composition/Content: Wonderful composition, and I really like the flower that you chose to submit. I like the fact that there is a great deal of beauty left in the flower, but there are also signs of death and dying creeping in. Whether or not you meant to capture a statement, you did.
My Opinion: The voters absolutely missed this one. While I have not been through all the entries in this challenge, this has been my favorite flower capture of the challenge thus far. It is surely much better, in my opinion, than many that scored higher.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,

Camera Work/Technical: Interesting depth if field, and nice focus on the key portion of your subject.
Lighting: I like the tones captured here with the use of natural and available light.
Composition/Content: I think that the composition that you chose really hurt your score. The small portion of the cow itself to the left of the frame adds a very large distraction. Add to that, your subject is centered in the mirror, and the mirror is pretty much centered in the frame. Definite composition flaws that lend to lower votes as a general rule.
My Opinion: Unfortunately, I think this one scored pretty close to its potential. It was a comical take on the challenge, and your comments reflect that.

Camera Work/Technical: I like the crisp focus you achieved, but I'd like to see a bot more shallow depth of field. I'd like to see the flower isolated from the rest of the scene with focus.
Lighting: Great, natural lighting. Everything was nicely and evenly lit with no lost details in harsh highlights or deep shadows.
Composition/Content: The composition isn't bad, but it also doesn't jump out at grab my eye's attention. The leaves of the plant that were left on the focal plane adds distractions to the eye.
My Opinion: Its not a bad photograph at all. I think that the sub-5 scoring is a bit harsh, but flowers and voters are tough to figure out here.

First of all, welcome to DPC. People around here shoot for all different reasons. Some shoot for scores, some shoot to share their work, some start here and move on to greater things. Whatever your reasons for signing up were, welcome. I hope you decide to stick around and shoot more.
Camera Work/Technical: I do see your primary are of focus here, and I can appreciate the reflection of the various colors bleeding into one. I can also see how other users and voters could believe that those technical aspects were off, as well. I think your title explains the intention of the technicals.
Lighting: I like the lighting in your image. In fact, I think that it is the single strength that adds interest and depth. It is a bit of an abstraction, at least somewhat.
Composition/Content: Content...I am neutral. The image does depict kitchen instruments. Composition...feels very uncomfortable. Leaving empty space at the top and chopping the tools off at the bottom of the frame gives more of an accidental feeling to the composition than one of intention. I think the composition is perhaps the largest perceived weakness of the capture.
My Opinion: 4.02 is a starting place at least. I cannot say that I disagree with the voters on this one, but entry into challenges alone is worth merit. I would have scored it in the 4 to 5 range, so I think the voters hot the mark with this one. Now you have your first entry in, and you see how voters cast their numbers. Again, it all depends on why you shoot. Do you shoot for the scores or for capturing images you like? Welcome.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric

Camera Work/Technical: I like what you have done with the technical aspect of this image. The depth of field is terrific, as is the choice of a shutter speed that would keep most of the frame in focus, while, at the same time, allow the motion of the leg to blur.
Lighting: Every part of your lighting is nice and even save the upper left corner. That hot spot grabs my eye and prevents it from roaming the frame as is should.
Composition/Content: I do like the flow of your composition. The legs serve very well to dray the eye into the frame, and, if it were not for the hot spot, the distant town and waters would serve even further to do more of the same.
My Opinion: I think this image, as it is shot and processed, met the challenge very well and very creatively, as well as placed about where it should have in voting. Shot at a different time of day and without that hot spot, I think this one could have crept up into the top 10.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric
