Dappledby jenesisComment: My gut reaction to things like this is strongly negative. So bear with me while I collect myself and evaluate the photo on its merits, which are several. I like the composition - its shape, lines, and texture. I love the lighting, especially on the apples. |

Downhillby dartompkinsComment: Is it a marble? Sorry, but it looks very out of focus. And the highlights are blown in a rather obnoxious way. |

Not meant for consumptionby LesleyNelsonComment: The shot seems a little low key for this competition. The composition is a little static. While this fake egg is infinitely more beautiful in real life than a real egg, the features that make it so - its shininess and the veins of color don't really make an impact. |

Summer Forgottenby KelliComment: I love the idea, but the exposure and post processing seem like many opportunities lost. The photo is severely overexposed: there are no pixels in the bottom third of the value range, and the highlights are severely blown. Assuming it is an automatic camera, try a few shots pointed at the snow right next to the object. Then with Photoshop use Levels to map the exposed photo into the range of values you want in the photo. Correct contrast and brightness using Curves. It's okay to make a phot with blown highlights and low contrast when the purpose of the photo is evocative instead of descriptive; but the subject, sharp focus, and central placement of the subject make it impossible for this to be an evocative photo. |

White Rock White Waterby netdudeComment: Photo of 'something,' a rarity in this competition. I like the four textures of water and the strong light. My temptation would have been to crop off the top until the photo was square - that may be too severe, but I think the greenish tinge needs to go. |

Claspby e301Comment: My appologies, this is the sixth or seventh mum I've encountered in this competition and I want to scream. There is idiom, and there is cliche. The second photo was more that enough. Actually, of photos of mums, this is right up there. |

To The Pointby ZalComment: Well, I suppose minimalism can proceed just a bit farther than this; but I'd miss the point. |

High Key?by jimsappComment: Wow, the legs are great - it's been ages since I've seen a gumball machine like that! I think it's a crime in three states to cause a person to be upstaged by an old gumball machine. |
