Cityby lejComment: it's amazing how different locations and coloration can change the character and mood of a photo (and person).

No, i think it was painted way earlier than that, perhaps in the 60's or 70's. The base was cleared between '91 and '93, so that's two to four years after the reunion of socialist and kapitalistic Germany. As soon as the CSSR went down the russians knew that they were to leave (former) East Germany and return to Russia within the next few years, so what's the point of making the last years of their stay on the base more enjoyable by painting images of the "glorious" sovjet times? The russians didn't give a damn what would happen to the base after they had left, and the newly formed BRD didn't find use of the MANY bases that were now empty, and on the other hand probably neither had the fonds to rebuilt the base nor to demolish and renaturate it...Which of course is good otherwise i would not have the opportunity to explore these VERY interesting remnants of a 40 years lasting era of German history. :) |

carrocelby halopesComment: ah yes, iso 3200 film goes very well together with amusement parks during the night :)
great shot, i love the bizarre contrast between joy and fear the image depicts. Somehow it's joyful and creepy at the same time... |

The meaning of dreamsby secolibarComment: Too bad about the DQ. This was the best image in the challenge hands down!
I'm looking forward to travelling to Romania next month again. I went through Arad last year but didn't stop by to see the town. Are there any Gypsy villages in or around Arad, because that's what I'm interested in seeing and photographing there?
Great shot, keep it up!

Ksenijaby ZigomarComment: Originally posted by Zigomar: Originally posted by tph1: yeah, where do you get all these great models? and the acid effect you use is driving me nuts. |
Literally everyone is a great model, with respect to 'great' models. You just have to approach the people in a good way and awake the model within them. Most of my models are my friends or acquaintances. |
yeah zigomar is very modest. just wander the streets of beograd, budapest, warsaw, kiev or any other eastern european city and you'll be blown away by the beauty of the girls you see, all of them look like potential supermodels! ;)
very cool shot man! |
