Et tu, Emu?by BebeComment: Nice eye detail and unusual angle helps a touch but simply not sharp enough or interesting enough to score highly with me. |

Duck!by inspir8tionComment: Good light but poor composition - very static and uninspiring, too much detail in the background. |

Voyagersby Bear_MusicComment: There seems to be such a strange halo around the two geese - I don't know if that's because of an effect filter or because you've selectively processed the water/ birds etc. The whole thing feels soft too so maybe it's all down to a soft focus filter (not a fan myself). I like the composition but the processing doesn't work at all for me. |

Tomby Dim7Comment: Interesting colours but lacking in appeal for me in terms of content. Would be good to have captured the bird when the light was coming from another direction so as to provide a catchlight in the eye and make the eye the focal point. cropping seems a touch arbitrary - doesn't feel balanced. Colour cast seems a bit cold... |

New Feathersby NobodyComment: Nice exposure, night lighting and good framing but... whilst it's interesting from a behavioural point of view, the pose just makes for a "messy" composition. |

Balancing Actby mmenardComment: I think I'd really like this if only I could make the bird out more clearly against the background. They are simply too close in colour for me and whilst that may well be because of the bird's propensity to rest in places where it is camouflaged, it doesn't make for as strong a picture, in my opinion. If only the background were pale and bright like the rock it rests upon! Also, I don't know if it's because you've selected the background and then blurred it or due to sharpening but there's a very strong pale halo right around the bird which doesn't look good to me at all. |

soaring serenityby BeetleComment: Interesting viewpoint though looking up in this way means what we see is in shadow. Image seems soft too - I just cant make out any detail. Composition works well. |

Good morning!by dwterryComment: Bird is overwhelmed by the detail and colour of the yellower sticks in the foreground. Image also seems slightly oversharp or overcontrasted? I can't see halos yet, something doesn't feel quite right about it. Composition works reasonably well. |

Catch of the Dayby cghamiltonComment: I love the content of this picture - to capture the heron with his catch and with the wonderful interest of the rocks too - excellent. The problem for me is that the main subject is in shadow and lacks detail whereas the background is perfectly lit. I can see that this is down to time of day and where the light is coming from but would question whether a little fill in flash would help (if you're close enough) or simply just an exposure taken off the bird rather than the background. That said, this shot could be improved (in my opinion) with some post processing adjustment of levels and contrast. |
