There are so many faces; so many smiles, frowns and sighs here. It's an enchanted exercise in how far you can push my imagination, and the answer is, 'pretty far, thank you'.

I cannot understand how any even mildly sentient viewer would not prefer this picture over the derivative & formulaic rubbish hanging at the other end of the gallery. I know it's not really a very ambitious challenge theme, but that hardly explains nor excuses such a determined mass absence of curiosity. No man is an island (sayeth Donne), but remarkably many are pretty stony and dense.

I could have been - should have been - more generous with this than my 6. Even though that did put it in my top ten. I'm an admirer of good street stuff, and even pretend to be a street photographer myself, so there's no excuse for my having failed to do you justice.

What I'd have said had I been on the ball was that this photograph is a very contemporary take on a classic street image theme. Like when they do productions of Shakespeare in modern street costume and Laertes says, "Yo!" to Ophelia. Your photograph is clever, economical and pure.

But it's too late to say all that now. Just in time though, to say thank you.
