delivery boy (shot under basic editing rules)by tomzinhoComment: Nice photograph. Basic editing rules ... why? Or more to the point, why say so? Do you imagine that makes it more meritorious? It's a fine image, and doesn't need to be boosted or rationalised to score well. Terrific composition, well captured and effectively (if a little basically) processed. 8 |

Young Icarusby Keith ManiacComment: Me too, Chris. The entry was really very good but this one is truly memorable and I must prefer it. It's got an epic, cosmic quality that I suspect the late Carl Sagan might have loved. I think you picked the right one for the best score from DPC voters, however; the bit of lens flare & the tilted wall would have distracted many. |

Apollo Rising by Keith ManiacComment: Another of your masterful compositions! A terrific, simple idea, smoothly and confidently executed. Congratulations, Chris. |

Under the Pierby JutildaComment: I particularly like this. It's a simple, stark composition, but clever because there's just enough detail in the darkness to give it form and purpose. The yellow of the lights looks great against the predominantly black and white of the rest of the image. I also like it because it has a 'Close Encounters' feel to it; it even makes me think of that damn music. Message edited by author 2005-08-14 21:36:35. |

meet me for lunchby FirstyComment: I like this very much. It's a terrific, effective composition because of the angle, but also the crop and the clever placement of the two figures. I reckon it's a 'better-than-it-first-looks' image. |

happy1.jpgby FirstyComment: Really nice candid portrait. The DOF is absolutely right, in spite of what you said in the associated forum thread. A particularly nice touch is the three out-of-focus lights, acting as a leading line for the couple's faces. Even if you crop the person with the backpack & leave just two of these lights, it still works. Nice. |

Rainbow Road IIby puzzledComment: Love the clouds with the polarizer. The ISO 800 makes it look like a photograph from the 1950's (I like that too, I'm from the 1950's myself). But what I like most is the very elegant composition, where the road and the horizon meet so casually at the edge of the frame. Simple & very nice. |

Sign at an old hardware storeby puzzledComment: I like it too. What does it mean, 'KROKNALEN'? My guess is laundromat. Or maybe Ice Creams. (Bet it doesn't mean 'Hardware", does it?) Either way, it's a very interesting photograph, nice composition and remarkably sharp shadow. I see no reason to prefer a different crop; it looks striking just as it is. Polar Windsby srbrubakerComment: Well Steve, it was pretty good, but if you'd just included a yellow rubber ducky, a wooden puppet, a chess board and a brutally over-processed sky, this would have been perfect. Top ten for sure. |
