Stripesby ArtanComment: Yes. Clever and complete. And so good that you did not "correct" the perspective effect seen at the lower step. I probably would have, and thereby diminished it. Lovely tonal range and rendering, too. 9. |

Beetleby SimonkasprzakComment: Volkswagen was once proverbial for the artistry of their corporate imagery, in advertising and in every other form. Their heyday in that regard was about when this Beetle was new. If they'd seen this image then, they'd have showered you in deutschmarks. Actually, they still might ... clone out that white arc on the wall & give 'em a call!
Every aspect of this image is superb; concept, composition, capture and processing. Beautiful. Bravo. 10. |

Forgotten Pathby jsolsonaComment: This is terrific. It's the sort of thing that looks simple, and a fool like me says "yeah, I could do that". But actually, I can't. It is a masterful bit of trickery, all the more impressive because it is not overdone. So it allows me to quote my favourite aphorism: "Less is More". Great work! 9. |

Angel of the Northby fredandaudComment: I've never seen this monstrosity in the flesh, only pictures of it looming above a motorway somewhere. I love the impression you have created of the lilliputian people idolising it. Especially as it's such a casual kind of idolatry; they seem posed for conversation rather than worship. They don't even seem to notice the revolutionary who appears to be drilling a hole in its foot. Anyway, my fantasies aside, I like your clever photograph very much. 9. |

Study in Duotonesby TooCoolComment: Not just beautiful tones, but a fabulous composition. And the granular texture of the crop in the foreground elevates the good composition into art. 9. |

sacred stairwayby BrennanOBComment: Wonderful photograph. At first it seemed too heavy on the midtones, but I soon realised the whites and blacks are all there; they're just not prominent. The histogram (I must admit I took a peek) is very instructive. So was the extent to which the already very fine tones were further enriched when opened in Photoshop; a properly high res version of this must look stunning! As it is, it's still terrific and I enjoy it more the longer I look. It reminds me of something I've seen from the same geographic region, I think by Ansel Adams. 9.
(P.S. I did immediately dump the copy I made for PS) |

The Violin Makerby ezekiel8Comment: Beautiful, assured work. The light is perfect, and the connection created between the man and the table with the simple tools of his trade is masterful. 9. |

Theatre for twoby anviComment: A great, original idea. And very well executed, too. I particularly like the fact that she is watching the movie, and he is watching the photographer. Imagine how much less interesting it would have been with both looking at the movie, or with both looking at the camera. I like the effect of the shot being simultaneously posed/not posed. 8. |

photo exhibitby ronragComment: I love this. Anyone who can't get at least 5 minutes' entertainment and stimulation out of this terrific image has an imagination problem. It's like a particularly interesting board game, or maybe the Rubik's Cube of photographs. And they look like good photographs, too. The photographer (or is he merely the impresario?) is clearly pleased with them .. he even looks a little smug about it. One of the best and most ambitious works in this challenge. 9. |

Evergreenby outlandComment: I've never tried to take a photograph like this, but I imagine the snow makes it awfully difficult to get the exposure and subsequently the tonal control right. You seem to have done both perfectly. I admit I normally have little interest in this kind of photography, but this is so beautifully executed that I must give it an 8.
(By "this kind of photography" I don't mean to be insulting; it's just that such images seem to me to be more about the photographer than the subject. That's likely my problem, and not yours!) |
