It's beautiful. Elegant and thoughtful. Understated and confident.
But maybe the best thing about it is that it does not have a "kick" to it.
So good to see a photograph that's all about the subject and not about the photographer.

Back to say I can't believe nobody has remarked on the wonderful name of the butchery!
Such a wonderful, sly little juxtaposition all of its own, given the prim 'spit and polish' nature of the butcher.

The photograph looks like a still from a '60's BBC television series, especially as the two main players bring to my mind a couple of characters from that place and time ... the butcher as Captain Peacock ('Are You Being Served?") and the shopper as Captain Mainwaring ('Dad's Army').

Everything I love about really good street photography: wit, whimsy, charm and simplicity. And totally candid, naturally. So good to see photographs at DPC that are about the photograph, and not about the photographer. Love your work, Chris.

who do you, who do you, who do you, who do you
think you are, ha ha ha bless your soul
you really think you're in control

I think you're Crazy

I don't even remember taking this shot - don't remember the moment, the situation. Look at him - his too large coat (the bulge around his right shoulder), the too short trousers, his thick spectacles, his slightly chubby frame, the way the butcher has privileged his status compared to him by remaining on the step and forcing him to look up, the defensive way he holds his shopping bag in front of him, the awkwardness of his reaching for his pocket, his hair disorganised underneath his oh so ordinary flat cap, his blocky uncomforatble shoes, his slightly bandy-legged stance - a picture of 'english' humility and self-effacement. And then the butcher, his angry frown, his wearing of the 'uniform', his confidence, that vicious short back-and-sides haircut, the stragnth and power of his head - here really is a man used to the weilding of the cleaver. No contest, really?

Ha! Your self-analysis is just like I'd write. Saved me the trouble. Nice work on both counts.

I love this guy. So much attention to detail; the hair, bandana, leather, studs, one cool glove, stubble, shades, smoke ... it's all there! He makes me think of a '57 Chevy street rod; pathetically obsolete, hard to get spare parts, but still turning heads with those authentic period details. I suppose he's a lifelong NYC guy, and that NYC is his entire world? I wonder how he'd deal with being suddenly transported to where I live, which looks like this:

Anyway, it's a great street portrait, Steve. All the usual crap is good: lighting, composition, processing.
But the best thing is what you're best at ... you were right there, you got the shot, and you allowed your subject to participate in it just enough to create effective communication between you, him, and me.

Well, you would have known that I'd like it. A whole lot. Not too dark for me (very little is) ... I can see the internal detail of the dinghies fine. The taut painter suggests tethered balloons, but that's probably just the influence of my Monty Python side. Beautiful raking light.

They're beautiful. Continents and islands, ready for assembly. Glass. Mercury, or at least molten metal. Lovely light, shape and texture. It's an absorbing look at what a thing can be in addition to what it actually is. That's something to do with art, isn't it?

Wow! What have you been smokin? Another beautiful water image; great composition, wonderful teasing abstract overtones, terrific everything. I didn't vote, or even look, but this is without question the best I've seen in the first 5 pages of results. Virtual Blue Ribbon, cobber. Congratulations, Amy!
Edit to add: Such a clever title, too ... couldn't let that go unremarked.

Ralph's a fine lookin' critter. Don't let him find out who's really in charge.
It's a very nice, sympathetic photograph, too.
