Driving People Crazy

This photograph is driving ME crazy. Why, when everyone else is looking with concern over to our right, are these two hitting the books? And hitting the books with such apparent ardour, as well. From the ages of the people and the glimpses of the buildings, this looks like a university. Which would make these two rather nerdy students. Perhaps theological students? Maybe medicine? Certainly not law, anyway; not even the lowest lawyer would wear that shirt. The face on the book cover recalls Osama bin Laden, but it could also be Jesus. It's an infuriating puzzle, which makes the image some kind of success. But I don't want to see the movie. 7.

This is pretty weird ... and I always like that. Presumably this is in Iceland, where dessicated cod might be considered a suitably glamorous backdrop for a princess? I'd be virtually certain to see this movie. 7.

Well, I love the subject, the point-of-view, the terrific tonal range & treatment, and the processing. Plus of course the splendid title. It's a science-fiction movie, set in a mining community on a distant asteroid or moon, and I'd be unlikely to see it. I'd try to souvenir one of the posters, though. 8.

Fabulous light. There's plenty more to like about it, too, but the use of light is worth a 7 on its own.
Nah ... rethink: 8. I'm not so sure I'd sit through the whole movie, though, unless you gave free popcorn too?

Yes. Very, very good. I suppose the whole background is desat? Oddly enough, it doesn't at first seem so. It's an attention-grabbing image, and should be a good movie. I'll see it. 8.

Very nice photograph; lighting, composition, framing, exposure, processing - all the technicals are excellent. Also good juxtaposition of the luminous and pretty young girl with the dark and gnarly old structure. If the movie's as interesting as the poster, I'll buy a ticket. 7.

It's hard for me to be objective about a style of photography that I know nothing about (and don't care to), but this is clearly technically very fine work. The faint drop-shadow about her outline is odd, but given the evident care that has gone into making this image I suppose it was deliberate. 7.

Love this. The light and the tonal range are terrific. Cat looks suitably ominous. The histogram (I had to take a peek) is fun. I'd probably like this movie. 7.

I suppose this is a technically perfect portrait in the "formal-informal" style so beloved of royalty, admirals, actors and the old aristocracy. It's not a genre that appeals to me, but even we artistic primitives can recognise that this is a beautifully executed photograph. Maybe the rear leg looks a little inelegant and incongruous ... like it belongs to someone else (a rugby player, perhaps), in which case I like the image a little more. 7.

Nice viewpoint; your apartment balcony? It's really very good. I especially like the compression of the streets, as if people and cars would hardly fit in between the buildings. The brilliant green light on the tower anchors everything and prevents the otherwise-compressed scene from looking two dimensional. 7.
