The light on his face, like a spotlight, transforms the girls in the window into a chorus line. Now all we need is for cupid's arrow to hit the passing lady, and we have a story! There's no business like show business.

This is one of those shots that is better than it looks. Don't take that the wrong way; I mean that it rewards a bit of extra time looking and thinking. Maybe I am biased because you said where it is, but I can see the ghosts of some very sad memories here. It has a hint of a despairing feel to it, not so much in the building, but in the ghosts.

It's not just the cigarette; they have somewhat similar hairstyles, and they look in nearly the same direction. It's a very clever dipper, great DOF, beautifully processed and very aptly 'divided' on about 60-40 lines.
