pillars of societyby daisydavidComment: Beautiful, clever, searingly original and bold in this company, and yet it still has the qualities to be popularly recognised as a Blue Ribbon picture. The photograph works on every possible level ΓΆ€“ social commentary; uncommon vision; skilled yet restrained photographic craft; humour and wit; even as a faux-abstract presence. There's no box left unticked! This should be the first time I have ever picked the winner. 10, an Order of the Thumb for those long winter nights, and a thank you.

Stripped and thrown awayby coraildefeuComment: Just a beautiful photograph. Simple but complex; it can stand up to any amount of analysis and appreciation. This is by any standard a superb picture. 9 and the sinister Order of the Thumb for you. And a big thank you.

All That Glitters...by tvsometimeComment: It's a pretty standard (though very good) street picture, but it fits the challenge like a glove with no fingers. Well seen and well done. 8. Thank you. |

Trash or Treasureby BenstedComment: It's a kind of Jackson Pollock of trash, but with a religious icon superimposed. Or maybe it's just a flag, in which case I'd suggest it for the UN's new standard. Or the Vatican's. 8. Thank you. |

Eine kleine Nachtmusikby whiteroomComment: Among the many clever things about this picture, my favourite is the anthropomorphic personality of the discarded hanger. He does indeed appear to be serenading the night sky from a hilltop. I wish I didn't know who took this, so that I could give you a Thumb. It's beautiful, and wickedly clever. Thank you. |

RadioFlyerby bspurgeonComment: I'm still dismayed. The 'foreign culture' excuse of unawareness of the iconic redness of a Radio Flyer wagon is no excuse at all. Everyone here has by definition a computer, and thus a Google or equivalent. DPC challenges only ever present the voter with a tiny handful of unmistakably ambitious images to consider. It takes only a moment for the culturally unaware to inform themselves, and thereby be equipped to make an informed judgement. Lack of awareness is forgivable in an artist, but lack of curiosity is not. The real magic is very often in the oddball images that you don't initially comprehend. |

abandonby tnunComment: Yes. I like whimsical ambiguity like this. It looks like a body wrapped while dancing a frenzied electric boogaloo, so the title was particularly well chosen. Great fun! Thank you. |

red cupby bvyComment: The leaf! It's an excellent juxtaposition because it avoids appearing too forced. Thank you. |
