USMC.jpgby dssagent88Comment: This is so effective at communicating the intended point. Sorry about your DQ but since you asked for comments I'll tell you how it strikes me. For starters, as I said, I think it has great impact. I probably would have scored it a 7. While I like the blending of two images in the subject Marine, I don't care for it as much in the background. In my opinion having the American flag on the "dress blues" side and the raising on the flag on the other gives me just too much to look at, 4 images instead of two. Also the colors in the complete image have a bit of a washed-out look to my eye. I hope that you will find these thoughts helpful, and thanks to you and your friends for your heroism, sacrifice and service. Best, Ray |

Treacherous Alleywayby glad2badadComment: I wondered if this one were yours when I viewed it! To be honest though, there were several- 4 or 5 maybe- that I thought might be.
I was one of your 81 fives. Issues were primarily composition, as well as some softness.
As for your composition, while I do think that this does a pretty good job of communicating the circumstances (ie it "tells a story" as so many like to say), I think that it suffers primarily from being too far away (a tighter crop would elimnate so much of the brick wall at the subjects' left and also the alleyway beyond the intersection), and also from your pov: no faces, only their backs. I noticed so many shots from behind, and I totally understand why, but I think the best STREET PHOTOGRAPHY shots included faces.

City Romanceby AlexSaberiComment: Oooh! Not what I expect to see in a challenge such as this. You MUST have had a tripod I would guess, but on the other hand the walking couple is barely blurred so it wasn't too long of an exposure. Either way, it's an eye-catching entry, definitetly meeting the challange IMO. Good luck! |

Strollerby JuliBocComment: Well, sorry to be telling you that this one doesn't work for me, so I hope you won't mind if I explain my reasons. The subject's expression isn't something I want to view... he just looks upset, but there is no context as to why (with kids sometimes a reason isn't necessary, I know :) Also his placement in the frame, almost out of the frame actually, isn't the best. And finally the exposure is poor (his forehead and blond hair with no detail in the highlights, for example) and the b/w conversion seems flat. Don't mean to be ultra-critical as this may sound, but it's how it strikes me, and I hope you'll find my comment helpful. Best to you, Ray |
