A View Of The Great Mausoleum At Forest Lawnby fulgentComment: I liked the statue and mausoleum composition idea. This shot was taken on the second day, the earlier image was shot higher. This was shot about a foot off the ground and made a stronger image.
Spent more time editing this challenge image than any other I can remember. I really wanted to edit towards a very dramatic lighting scene.
There was no sun breaking through the clouds. The lighting effect was created by dodging and burning with the idea of creating an uneven look as it would if the clouds were really thick and thin.
The background sky was more difficult than the rest, nature did not give me exactly what I wanted that day. I re-did the sky editing 2 or 3 times to get it to this look.
No Neat Image. Don't own that software yet.

Apocalypse Nowby fulgentComment: Thanks for all the support on this one. My highest score so far. 7th place. Also very encouraging to get the 2nd highest count for the most "Favorites" on this Challenge.
This was not originally shot for the challenge. This scene was next to a puddle with birds that were my subjects.
When reviewing and playing with the images I shot that day, I was adjusting the contrast to try to hide a dark dust spot near the edge, when I went high contrast, it really reminded me of the Apocalypse Now movie. So I spent a lot of time trying to get the best coloring I could and retain the mood of the movie.
Thanks again,

The Wallby neehaiComment: Under rated. Really like this one. Sort of a asian painting look to it. Very interesting to look at. |

Feeding Her Part Time Petsby fulgentComment: To clarify in case you don't understand this photo. They are pets but not a house pet. The picture is a candid not a snapshot.
"pet n. 1. An animal kept for amusement or companionship." There are ducks and geese at this park that are not migrating birds. They live there year around for the enjoyment of the park visitors. Some may even have clipped wings. Some I've never seen fly and I've been to the park probably over 70 times this year. They are pets (part time as titled).
I knew the story I wanted to communicate. It took me three trips and I'm sure over a 100 shots to get the CANDID shot of this little girl being kind to the ducks. Not really a snapshot unless you consider photos that a wildlife photographer who waits for the right action to occur is just shooting a snapshot.
