... Hollywood Was Just A Real Estate Tract. Then Cameramen And Storytellers Came ...by
fulgentComment: My mistake = Hollywood's history is NOT well known.
I thought almost everyone knew this sign was first put up to promote a real estate development. Then when the movies made Hollywood world famous they kept it as a landmark. The sign originally said "Hollywoodland" but a landslide ruined some of the letters. They only restore the Hollywood portion.
In essence this sign was there at the beginning and an important part of Hollywood's early history. So much for this lesson.
Other comments:
"Common" shot. It's a rare shot. As some may know, L.A. just had it's 2nd highest all time rain season. You will not see the hills around the sign this green in normal years. I did bump up the saturation during Raw conversion but only about as far as the camera would allow.
Tighter crop? I would have liked it better myself but I wanted the California Golden Poppy's for added color and the house to tie in the real estate development concept. The poppy's were in a restricted area.
Long Title? Maybe not long enough to give the history lesson. ;)
Knew it wouldn't ribbon but thought it would be interesting for many to see how green it is here after this last rainy season.
Estimated it would score in the 5's at least. It started out with about 20 people giving it a 3 or less the first night and averaged 3.1. Then it gradually moved up to this current score. What a disappointment.
