Well, if I had to pick a picture to lose to, I couldn't have picked a better one. Like I said earlier this makes me think of the tsunami survivors. It is a very well done and compelling shot. Congrats on the blue.

I think this has great emotion and humor. The eyes are a little dark under that cap, but not too bad. I think it is improved with a little tighter crop on the left. I would bring it in to his shoulder. That eliminates a bit more of the bright background that is competing with the faces for the viewers attention. The are both beautiful. That always helps too. :) Bumping up.

The lighting is a bit harsh, and the cuttoff fingers of the daughters hand are a little distracting. The emotion and the mothers expression are great. The DOF is wonderful as well.
