Apple Blossoms by Ja-9Comment: Hello from the critique club

What an abundance of attractive flowers. Therein lies part of the problem for me, there is just so much of it throughout the frame I am finding it a little difficult to concentrate on the main subject. I think there were two possibilities here, one to isolate the foreground and softer focus flowers against a plainer background or to isolate the front flowers alone against the distant soft focus repetitive background, for me either of these would have been more effective. However, its still a lovely entry Janine, thanks. |

Iris in dappled sunlightby RulerZigzagComment: Hello from the critique club

This is all about the lighting. The lone flower nicely spotlit by the soft sunlight against the darker natural background works really well, it stands out like the attractive beacon it is. Your composition is also very complimentary to the subject and its position in the natural setting, lovely. Well taken Anton. |

A rose for youby LustreComment: Hello from the critique club

A lovely portrait that is always going to appeal, very tenderly done. I have to say I̢۪m not too keen on desalt so I̢۪m pleased that you haven̢۪t completely desaturated all the colour in the girl, here lovely rosy cheeks add a pleasing balance to the red of the rose. The blown highlights have hit her hair but not its a small price to pay for the important detail you have captured in her face. Its an image you will be able to treasure for a long while to come, well done Mark. |

What a lovely vibrancy you have captured here Susan. The lighting and detail is excellent, I̢۪m really intrigued how you have done it, its nicely illuminated from the front but equally appears to be backlit too? And then we have that gorgeous background which again leaves me intrigued, is it outdoors seen through net or a soft focus patterned cloth. The shape of the flowers lends itself to your sympathetic composition nicely. All in all Susan a lovely job well done and thanks for your entry. |

Your excellent entry fulfils the challenge brief well Gin Tay and congratulations on your high score and placing. The image is full of interest with so much fascinating detail to explore. I like your mono processing. I can see what SaraR is saying but personally I don't have a problem with the distant softness it all works well for me, well done. |

Bread, and Circusby RulerZigzagComment: Hello from the critique club

Although the crowd element is minimal with three people visible and one leg the setting implies the presence of many more people so in that respect it fulfils the challenge brief. The inclusion of the fairground attraction in the background makes for a good composition but also provides the setting for the rest of the people. Your exposure is good in this difficult lighting situation, thanks for a pleasing entry Anton. |

Fire Alarmby clickodakComment: Hello from the critique club

You've met the challenge brief well Marcel, the crowd of people together with the fire tenders makes for quite a dynamic scene. It tells the story that easily that the people are there as a result of an incident and all in a position of limbo waiting for the 'all clear'. I was fooled by kiwinick into looking for his imaginary person, are perhaps my eye are failing me! |

A great image Otto, a spectacular landscape. The radiant glow from the golden hour adds a distinct hue together with some lovely reds in the sky. I love the distant mists on the water it adds a sense of mystery. The inclusion of the person adds the human element very effectively though a somewhat compressed perspective. A lovely composition Otto, thanks for your entry |

A great image Ronnie, the concept and execution is original and effective. I like the use of the diagonal for the 'gator it makes for a more dynamic result. The minimal profile of the animal is sufficient to recognise what it is but too little to dominate it makes for a very effective slice and a strong focal point. I like it a lot, well done Ronnie |

Breacking the rule of thirdsby clickodakComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that meets the challenge
A lovely composition that works in its own way. What makes this scene work so well is the splash of strong colour against the muted colours of the rest of the scene. If we assume that you have most of the plant holder, moving it further to the right would have conformed with the RoT but this is a good example of where the rule can be effectively broken. Because the rest of the plant holder is missing it leaves a sense of mystery. Also, the strong diagonals of the shadows splits the frame in a dynamic way again adding interest and impact to the end result. Nice one Marcel. |
