An appealing image that contributes to the open challenge well
You̢۪re right, she is incredibly photogenic. It̢۪s a nice pose and composition, I like the way she is sitting to one side, probably because of that I would have been tempted to move the swing further to the right to make it a little less central. I like the rim lighting around her hair it works well. You̢۪ve got good exposure and detail in her face and the focus and DOF is appropriate, a lovely image Jon, thanks for sharing Karragen with us. |

Do they really stretch out upside down then? The image itself is up to your normal high standards Ronnie and no less amazing what you can do with your kit hand-held a credit to you. As far as the challenge is concerned there is not much else you could have done with but inevitably in terms of this challenge you were always going to be up against it so your score might not be as high as you wished for but nevertheless still respectable.

When I first opened this up before I read the challenge rules I thought, what theâ€Â¦? It is of course, entirely appropriate for the challenge and also quite quirky as a result too. The exposure is good with good detail throughout, street pigeon has said it all... |

A very pleasing landscape with excellent still reflections, however, I find the right foreground really quite distracting. The small ripple at the base of the frame is also quite distracting. I think this would have been stronger if you could have excluded both of these perhaps by moving along to the right and pointing the camera down to crop most of the sky and include the water right up to the foreground thereby emphasising the feeling of space and also making the very most of those wonderful reflections. |

Woah Ronnie, that egret done you plenty good again, congratulations. What a great entry, the long patient wait for both of you reflects a quiet atmosphere to its fullest. I have to agree this subdued image would seem to me to be far more fitting than the potential sunny image would have been. You must be well pleased with this but even more excited at the potential imagery you and your new lens have to look forward toâ€Â¦! |

An appealing image that does meet the challenge
A pleasing scene in which I think you have an essence of quietness but also a sense of tension waiting for that juggernaut to come rumbling around the bend and ruin the peace. The silver birch trees are very attractive and the leaves are a very pleasant autumnal pastel topping together with the lovely bendy road a pleasing composition. It is all quite pleasant and works to a degree. Thanks for your submission Russell. |

Waterfallby PangurbanComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that does not meet the challenge
Although you have a pleasing composition, I feel this is more of a landscape with water than what the challenge should be about a waterscape, i.e., where the water dominates the image. What I think could have worked a lot better would have been to go in really close to the water with a wide angle lens and really make that water dominate the scene. I think the section just before the bend at the right angle and close enough you could have made that look like a giant waterfallâ€Â¦? |

I like your low viewpoint Janine that puts an emphasis on the foreground water, I think without this it would struggle as a waterscape given the prominence of the rocky surroundings, as it is they are still rather too dominating. The motion of the water is about right plenty of motion but not so much as all detail is lost, a pleasing balance. A pleasing image, thanks Janine. |

Congratulations Ronnie, a well deserved ribbon. Another lovely image, the strong focal point of the egret in the most appropriate hotspot is what makes this impressive image really stand out. I also particularly like the distorted reflection and the mist adds a real atmosphere and calmness against the birds hunting tension. Well done Ronnie. |

Super-Tall Person Rule #5...Make sure others know you're thereby snafflesComment: Hello from the critique club
An appealing image that contributes well to the challenge
Great idea Susan. I can sense your frustration, it can take us completely by surprise how fundamental issues can be overlooked like that. Anyhow, apart from that you still got a good top ten placing which speaks volumes for the strength of the concept and the image itself so well done.
You̢۪ve hit on a pet hate of mine of how absorbed people are with their mobile devices they are completely oblivious to everything else around them including people! And as for not looking up I̢۪m not at all surprised how you remained hidden from view, you know where to go if you want some seclusion! |
