One of my favorite type of newspaper assignments is to capture "wild art", which is defined as "Stand-Alone, Feature Shot, Enterprise art are found moments that are intended to be realistic slices of everyday life" (definition taken from this glossary). These are typically images that caption themselves, not needing a lot of words to get their point across. For this challenge, I'm scoring images as whether I'd like to see them on the front page of a paper as feel good wild art. If I don't think they would make the paper, I'm then asking myself, "does it make me feel good?" If it doesn't do much for me, well then, oh well...

While this is a nice photo and a nice sentiment, it's not moving my "feel good" needle. Yes, there are things about this idea that I should feel good about, but there's more of an air of sadness than gladness, don't you think?

Interesting image, but not really moving my "feel good" needle.

Aw, cute! So you score on the "feel good" (who can argue against that?!?). On the processing, you could have taken advantage of the advanced editing rules to balance out contrast. The doe's head is nearly lost in the leaves and Bambi's face is so dark that there are hardly any details. When you have a good image to begin with, you need to take advantage of the tools at your disposal to make the most of the image, especially in a challenge.

Not much happening for me here. I see a picture of a kid, but not seeing any action or emotion. No sense of engagement with his moment or environment. Not a fan of the processing, either. Just my personal opinions, though.

Lovely sentiment. I would suggest trying to get a hair below eye-level with your shortest subject. While I get the sentiment, I'm not really connecting with the subjects.

This looks like fun. It could probably stand to be cropped in a bit tighter.

Beautiful image. As for challenges, this probably would have done great in the zen challenge...

This looks like a great opportunity missed. All the elements for some "feel good fun in the sun" are there, but not as photographed. Maybe if there had been interaction between the two, or if you had focused in on one or the other. As is, it's more of a seaside snapshot than a strong image. Just my personal opinion, though.
