Canal at Dusk

Comment:
A nice "nigh-shot" photograph done very well but, IMO, does not comply with the theme of the challenge. I guess I could say the three's in the water was a silhouette but they're a reflection. The first bridge is lit so I'm guessing that the middle bridge is the silhouette in your picture. Taking that into account I will not say you did not meet the challenge but I feel you did not do it well. Again your photograph is very nice. I love the warm tones and the reflections in the canal. I just wish there were more of a presents of silhouette. Wish you well in the challenge.

NEGATIVES:
No so much a negative but a little to much detail on the silhouette for my liking. But thats a personal opinion.

POSITIVES:
Possible interesting subject and angle.
Colors in the lower portion of the sky.

NEGATIVES:
Background clouds to dark, they blend in with the subject creating a complicated and very busy photograph.
Exposure

POSITIVES:
Interesting and recognizable subject
Tones
Lighting
Focus
POV

NEGATIVES:
Border: Unnecessarily large and tone(s). No matter where I look within the photograph my peripheral vision draws my eyes to the border.
Negative space: Possibly to much negative space (sky). Maybe a crop on the left would of been good to make the subject(s) larger, IMO.

When I view your image I don't see silhouette. I see the use of shadows. IMHO I feel it does not meet the challenge. Very hard to pull of a abstract silhouette.

Interesting subject

Negative:
Border - not sure it is of value but not to the point of distraction.

POSITIVES:
I like the red color
Subject fills a good amount of the frame

NEGATIVES:
Out of focus
Picture looks 2-dimensional: The subject needed to have some detail if on a flat background OR the back ground needs to have some interest, be it light shift or other elements if your going to have a no detail silhouette

POSITIVES:
Nice sky
Nice Colors

NEGATIVES:
The subject is to small. Closer to the subject allowing him/her to fill the frame a bit more would of been better.
Horizon line: In the middle of the picture it splits the photograph. I would have pulled it down to the bottom third. All that black area has no value and distracting.
