I think the main problem with this image is what appears to be the use of on-camera flash. Let me recommend that you NEVER use the on-camera flash for a dpchallenge entry. It creates uninteresting, flat lighting. Good luck.

I think there is potential, but the sky is uninteresting, and the texture is not clearly emphasized. Next time try getting closer, much much closer. Try getting only part of the rock. Try putting the rock in different parts of the frame. Maybe try getting a closer shot comparing the stone texture with the ground texture. Good luck!
