A Nation Reflects, Mournsby slimComment: This is tough - because I suspect people would prefer a tighter closeup of the president than all this - it seems to busy to be "reflecting" or "mourning". Also - the angle is a little distracting. Good concept though. |

Olympic Flame starts touring Montrealby zjnztComment: Not the best capture of an expression! And you cropped out the critical part of the olympic flame! A higher shot including the flame would have been much more dramatic, and possibly a narrower depth of field - the background is distracting. (Depth of field is controlled through apeture - try a larger apeture like f2 or f4 next time - and let the camera adjust the shutter speed accordingly. most cameras let you do this in AV (apeture priority) mode). |

Elderly folk have computer lessons.by chookieComment: This is a good news shot - although a little blurry for me. Moving the computer closer to the edge of the desk, removing some of the clutter would also have added to the clarity of this image. I would also have liked to see the ladies faces - perhaps the shot over the monitor, or one of them looking at the camera. |

Mini Grand Prix Raises Money for Greenville Lion's Clubby andreblackComment: You could tighten this shot up by cropping out a lot of the road, sky and cones etc to the left of the image - perhaps just car 68 and the tires behind it - we'd still "get" the concept. The people waiting, street signs etc. just detract from the image (in my humble opinion). |

Toronto smoke-free bars. June 1st.by letheComment: Good use of depth of field, and nice tones in the black and white. Perhaps some smoke trailing would have added some more impact to this "discarded" cigarette. Also maybe slightly more of it in view would be easier to understand. |

Ellesmere Senior A Beat out Burnham 24 - 12 (Local Rag sports page)by KiwiChrisComment: Nice work. A narrower depth of field may have added more drama to this. Depth of field is controlled through apeture (f stops). A larger apeture would make the depth of field narrower, and focusing on the player closest to you would have blurred the background. Remember the field of sharpness extends about 1/3 in front of the focus point, and 2/3 behind the focus point. Good work. |
