I love the color and composition of this photo. I scored it a 10 but then I was admiring it again and noticed in the left side of the frame there is some weird stuff going on with the rain and the umbrella. bummer.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This is a vibrant, attention grabbing shot that is very well put together in terms of composition, lighting and unique subject matter.

For some reason I think I̢۪d like to see this shot with a different background, maybe still white but not as bright, or the letters on the can brightened. The bright background is distracting to me. I think if the white balance of the letters were similar to the background my eyes would be focused exclusively on the can and explosion, but the background is competing.

I̢۪m interested to know what I̢۪m seeing reflected in the can.

All that said, this is a great shot!

All the best!

I think this is a great photo. I love the vibrant color and the way the shot is set up with the biker coming from the bottom corner of the frame. I think this photo, although with no point of sharpness, is a very attention grabbing photo. Some might say this use of motion blur is ineffective because no one thing is without blur, but I disagree. I don’t need to see the bikers face to know he’s a biker, nor do I need to see the bike in focus; I know it’s a bike. That said, there is a market for this photo and it’s probably not a sports magazine. I think your audience is people more interested in color, shape and movement then photojournalism. So all that said, my opinion: I like this shot a lot. I generally don’t like sports photography because it’s often aesthetically boring—this is not.

Keep up the great shots!

All the best!

Greetings from the Critique Club!

This was indeed a funny and clever idea for the Extreme Action challenge. I really like the various stages of action, from planning the throw, throwing, recovering from the throw, and waiting to throw. This variety, and that fact that the action is concentrated in the portion of the frame behind the foreground subject's extended arm (which directs our eyes to the other action) makes this in interesting shot to look at for longer than the usual 2 seconds.

The one problem I see with this shot is that I'm not sure where your focus is because no particular subject seems to be in focus. I imagine the man in the foreground is the main subject and I wish he was more in focus.

I'll also add that this was a difficult lighting situation--given the shadows I'm going guess the sun was directly overhead--and could have been very under or over exposed because of the contrasty light.

Apart from the focus issue, this is a great shot with nice composition, and interesting subject matter.

Nice job!

All the best,

great shot and exposure. this lighting must have been difficult given the light and darks. it's all exposed very nicely. I hope you gave him a copy--it's a great portrait.

too much noise & saturation on the woman.

The lighting is interesting but it's hard to make out whhere the light is coming from , what's behind here, and what she's looking up at.

The woman is too centered, there is too much sky
I like the palm coming out the edge of the frame.
The exposure is off, and the everything looks flat.

Beautiful composition, lovely color, although the white rock in the background is a bit distracting.

I really like the way you captured this subject. Because it's off center and seems to shoot from the bottom corner of the frame it keeps the viewers eyes moving and really conveys a sense of action.

I think the colors are fantastic and I really like the motion blur of the ride. That said however, I'm not so crazy about the motion blur in the background because it makes all the motion blur makes it difficult to look at this photo for long because you start to feel like you just stepped off the ride. On the other hand, I think it's great that your photo can produce this result, but aesthetically speaking it would be an even stronger image if you had used a tripod so that you didn't have blur in the background.

Oh, and for the record, it's okay for you to call this place a fun fair. It's true that people say carnival in the US but that doesn't mean you have to.

Keep up the creativity and shooting!

All the best,
Christina Mallet
