The reflection makes the photo. Nice capture. You almost lose the mts into the sky in the background - that doesn't spoil it for me, but I'm curious of how the shot would work with the mts clearly defined. Just an idea in case you might shoot some more. This one is a keeper regardless. 8, just-married. Might become a 9 as the week passes. |
| 09/30/2002 12:41:00 AM | Corner of my Styby freetimeComment: This was my favorite shot of the week. I still love it. I wish you's placed better, but it's hard to compete with postcard shots. Anyway, terrific photo, a definite keeper. |
| 09/25/2002 01:37:00 PM | Corner of my Styby freetimeComment: I really love this shot. The soft focus really adds to the shot. The shadow of the corner is really nice and creates interest in the photo. Outstanding. 10, just-married |
| 09/23/2002 11:03:00 AM | A New Bell Curveby just-marriedComment: Thanks to everyone who took the time to study my photo enough to make comments on it. In response to the comments: 1) Lack of perfect symmetry bothered many. Unfortunately, these are two pieces of unique pottery (Yes Grayce, Fiesta!), so perfect symmetry was not really an option. If you look carefully you can see that the slope of the pitcher on the right is more inclined than that on the left. Couldn't be helped. 2) That said, I did break out Cool Ruler and measure the photo and I could/should have framed it with ten more pixels on the left and ten on the right. Good eye. 3) Swash, it never occurred to me to to credit Escher. I'm not sure I understand why I would...? While he certainly has images that take use the negative space to create a shape unto itself, he did not create that concept. Is there something I don't know? I am pretty familiar with the body of his work and cannot think of a bell reference. Correct me if I'm wrong. In response to the "Comment on your Negative Space entry" thread, please see the Details above. Thanks again to all. Dawn |
| 09/16/2002 05:06:00 PM | The Darkness of Depressionby nbortonComment: I think this would have been better if the background were not so lit. The expression and body language are really good. I like the B/W decision. I like the bright spot on the bottom of the foot -- it adds balance and draws the eye south. 5, just-married | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 09/23/2002 10:53:00 AM | Evening Prayerby stephanComment: Stephan, my husband had the same interpretation of the photo that you were going for. Because he saw this intent in the photo, he scored it higher. While I recognize this intent and I like it, in my opinion the photo was unsuccessful in conveying it. I agree with most of Courtenay's assessment below; more of the most would make your symbolism carry more weight. It's a shame that you couldn't capture more of the building -- believe me when I tell you that I've experienced that frustration. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 09/16/2002 05:06:00 PM | Coming ...and Going?by KarenBComment: UPDATE: Sorry for the long pause. Busy week! There's a lot I like about this photo. The clever element of the feel opposite each other in direction is really great for drawing attention and pulling you into the photo. The shadows int he footprints are nice, quite natural. The texture of the same is interesting and somewhat calming. (LOL, but true). The sepia tone is nice. The left foot seems to crowd the edge of the photo a bit, but that's a nitpick. 7, just-married ORIGINAL COMMENT: Neat idea. I like it. 6-7, just-married | Photographer found comment helpful. |

| 09/23/2002 11:25:00 AM | Wineglassby GordonComment: Gordon, I absolutely LOVE the changes you've made. It is so effective in fact, that when I look at the new image, my eye draw the rim of the top of the glass. I had to look at it for a long few moments to realize that it was an optical illusion and the rim of the glass does NOT infact appear in the photo. Very effective. just-married |
