I shoot a LOT of HDR. I get the best results when I set my camera to bracket 2/3 of a f/stop apart and I shoot 5 to 7 images. Also, make sure you are shooting aperture priority so your depth of field isn't changing. And Photomatix is sensitive to noise so shoot to balance low ISO and fast shutter speeds to minimize noise captured by your camera. All cameras are different so you'll want to experiment but minimizing noise in the original captures will help you when you create your HDR image.

Actually there was no desat. The model's skin (whether through makeup or natural) was white as were her leggings. But I truly appreciate your thoughtful comment.

This is actually a decent photo. The degree of difficulty is Very high. The execution good. However, it is an oft repeated subject and to score well it needs to be essentially perfect. 1% less than perfect and it will get hammered. You haven't been here very long and I hope your score doesn't get you down. Looking at your challenge entries it's clear to me you have talent. Keep working at it and you'll improve. If you ever want someone to bounce ideas off of, or to give you informal reactions to a photo, I'm happy to do it. Best of luck on future photos!
