Coming Inby JeileenComment: I like the silohuette effect of this photo. The composition is quite good, although the water skier in the background is a little distracting because they are so hidden in the darkness.
The edges of the silohuettes look a little soft / blurry, although nothing major. Since there is so much contrast it's possibly something that could be sharpened up with damaging the waves, but I'm no expert in this area.
I see humour in this shot - it's almost like the pelican is driving the jet ski. I assume this is what you mean by the title. |

Saturday Night - Going Downtownby JeileenComment: I love the colours - the blue in the background and the orange in the foreground. They are so vivid and strong.
Personally, I might have included a little more of the foreground in the shot - probably just by tilting the camera down slightly. I might have also tried framing the shot with the fence posts in shot but the gate out of shot to see how it looked.
I like the aspect ratio - I'm a sucker for a nice panoramic at the best of times.
Finally the focus is pretty good but some of the foreground is slightly blurred. Did you use infinity focus? Did you use a tripod? I suspect yes, but if not that they might help you. |

Choicesby JeileenComment: Hi - you asked for some critiqing of your photo's... Unfortunately the first thing that grabbed my attention is the border. It's perhaps a little too bright, and maybe a fine black line between it and the image would help.
There is a lot of noise in the background. I suspect you didn't really have enough light for this. You could try noise reduction in photoshop, or similar, but I would aim for more light if possible. I've used very bright lights and held lace up around the object to create a soft even light cheaply. |

abstract whiskby RefractedComment: Critique Club:
Composition: I like the intensity created by being so close to the whisk. The end of the handle is nicely located within the frame, and provides a focal point (helped by the shallow depth of field). The handle and it's shadow blend together a bit too much - perhaps more light on the handle would have helped this.
Technical Quality: I like the shallow depth of field - intentional or not, this really makes this shot interesting. The background is a little bit noisy, perhaps because of low light. I think lighting is the area in which this image could be most improved - by providing clarity and perhaps an even more interesting use of the shadows created.
Meeting the Challenge: Certainly does - clearly from the kitchen, and an artist interpretation. You didn't simply photograph a whisk - you tried to create a photo which stands on it's own. The photo meets the challenge without requiring assistance from the title - good work.
Creativity: The angle of the shot and the close crop are quite creative. Again though, I would have played with different lighting options to see if it could add another aspect to the image.
Border: None present, but none required for this shot.
Overall: Personally I think this shot meets the objectives of "Kitchen Art" quite well. I think it was perhaps a little rushed - the handle lets the photo down a bit by being so dark and merging with it's own shadow. Good work.
Cheers. |

Searching For The Perfect New Carby GallatinComment: Critique Club
Composition: It's a fairly aggressive composition in terms of tightness - which can be a good thing. I might have considered cropping the back wheel out of the image (the true wheel, not the reflection) and went for a pure reflection. I think this would have made a more balanced photo.
Technical Quality: Very good. The focus is crisp, depth of field is nice and exposure is wonderful. This is strengthened by the fact that at an auto show you typically have no control over the available light and little control over composition even. I think the conversion to black and white makes this a strong image since the shapes and tones hold a lot of interest in themselves.
Meeting the Challenge: The shot is clearly taken from above, and since the criteria are fairly basic for this challenge you have no issues.
Creativity: It's an original shot that I like. I probably would have walked straight past and not even realised the potential shot, so you have done well to firstly notice it and then capture it so well.
Border: The border ties in nicely with the darkness of the glass/mirror and the lightness of the seams between the panels.
Overall: Well done on capturing a shot which is both technically very strong and also interesting. I think the cropping suggestion I made at the top is the only aspect of this image I would have changed. Great work.
Cheers.

The Corridor by p_johnsComment: I wanted to get a photo like this myself but couldn't find an open stairwell. Good job but what is that person at the bottom? Did you super-reimpose them or were they laying down at the bottom? |

Into The Mystic by sherComment: Well done on a stunning entry, and a well deserved first place. The crispness of the bridge is wonderful, without being harsh. And the fog adds a lovely character to the photo. Composition is lovely and the sepia tone really suits the image. Great work! |

bike laneby ymerComment: Such a long bridge - I like your choice of shooting from the ground. You are almost a touch too low, but it works well. |
