My first take is ...huh? Why take this image? What are you trying to show or tell me? It seems it must make sense to you, but i just don't get it. Also the crop is pretty tight and the focus is pretty soft (deeper DOF?). I do like the blue light on the left and the way it makes the right side contrast nicely

Nice framing and colors, but the lighting on her face gives her a bit of a scowl and some odd shadow lines that are unflattering. The post processing is good for the most part but the masking around her head is a bit sloppy, leaving a halo of brightness, showing the darkening of the background. I know those dodge lines don't bother some, but for me I wonder if it would not have been better to either cut the dodge in all the way, or feather it out so the fall off was more gradual. As is i find it one of the most dominant elements int he image.

Then I thought about putting it in a container. Though when the container fell over, it startled him, an I think he went to the bathroom on the railing... It was all wet, and there was no water in the vase!

I'm looking up the number for PETA in Va. This abuse of our bushy tailed friends must be put to a stop.

To me this is a fun holiday shot. It looks like it captured a spontaneous moment worth keeping hold of. It does not look like a rigorously thought out, carefully executed and edited work. I do not see a "brilliant idea", and I am glad that the ten people who finished below you did not also rail against the score that their entry received.

If you like the image and a few others did as well, that ought to be enough. If you want to hear what others think of it, then enter it into competition. However don't be offended by all their impressions of your work; and railing against a commenter who didn't like your work, but had the guts to tell you why is not going to help.

IMHO you didn't really deserve the ones, nor did you deserve the tens. No one likes ones, and seven of them hurt. I got seven ones on a shot that I thought was spot on the challenge (finished fifth anyway) and no one who hated it had the guts to say what they hated about it. I would have liked to know why. Reject or accept negative reactions as you will, but if you want to score better you need to hear them out.

I wish you had a touch more contrast to get a true black on the birds, but other than that this is perfect. I especially like fact that you left that patch of open sky in the lower right.
