Icy Creekby DigipixerComment by kblm: very nice, it is very hard to get good contrast of colors in winter photo graphs. Mine always seem to look like black and white. good job. |

Icy Creekby DigipixerComment by kandyj: Great shot, love the curves in teh creek, the bush in the left to frame the shot, adn the contrast in the complimentary colors and the light and dark in the photo. Might have liked it lightened up a bit or an increase in mid and high levels, if it didn't get blown out. 8 |

I Fought the Thaw and the Thaw Wonby DigipixerComment by kandyj: this was a difficult challenge, the shadow on the snowman helps him stand out, but the lower shadow is a bit distracting to me. I do also like the contrast between the foreground subject and background and the dof works well. |

Icy Creekby DigipixerComment by hardwaybets: I would have cropped this a bit higher than lower...IMHO. Excellent lines leading to the top of the image...not to mention the beauty of the subject. Good luck! |

I Fought the Thaw and the Thaw Wonby DigipixerComment by Swashbuckler: Great title! (I would have never thought of it!!!) At first, I thought the sun should be on "the other side", but that's what makes the snowman stick out from the background most (not a picture of a snowman in a snow storm!), so good lighting. The trees in the background tend to muddle the shot to me (Maybe a more downward angle??) Photo 8, but the title gets you one more...9 Swash |

Midnight Blueby DigipixerComment by goodtempo: Critique Club critique:
Composition/Content: Very nice composition with the light areas surrounding the island of trees. I'd like to have seen the tops of the trees, but it's a great image. I kind of agree that it doesn't look like night. The light doesn't have a "midnight" or moonlight quality to it, probably because the sky is too light for midnight. The shadows and blue give it a quiet night-time feeling.
Background:I don't know if it was the camera or post processing but there appears to be a band of blue noise in some transition areas like at the top of the distant treeline.
Camera Work/Technical: The blue filter gives the image a soft focus because of the interpolation the camera has to do with only one color. I think it adds to the mood of the image.
Digital Processing: Processing seems fine. Good contrast.
My Opinion: I gave this image a high score because I like the image as a whole. I think it would have scored better with another "blue" title that didn't have midnight in it and possibly if the tops of the trees showed to give it even more of an island look. Great shot.

I Fought the Thaw and the Thaw Wonby DigipixerComment by HBunch: Even without the title, the sad look of the snowman is pretty funny. I kind of wish there was a bit of light on the front of him, but snow is often really hard to capture nicely, and the extra light would probably make it even harder. Very catchy title. Made my brother laugh too. I like the angle and framing/cropping. The platform he's sitting on looks very nice within the photo. Great shot and good luck in the challenge. |
