The 500mm really compresses distances and there was a lot of sun and shadow at the place I was shooting early in the day. I think the last time I used a flash was for my DPL single light portrait. LOL

Thanks, all. I shot this the day I got my new Nikon 500mm. It was a perfect day to test it out - weather was good and birds, migrating and otherwise, were taking advantage of the wild grapes in the trees. Even with the 500mm this is a major crop in, but it's something I haven't been able to catch in years past. I'd say I got lucky on this shot but I actually moved from my usual spot on the deck in order to be able to see this Robin without any branches obscuring it. So I was half lucky. LOL
