Hi Sally,

Greetings from the Critique club...

Congrats on the new camera -- more great shots to come I'm sure. Nice result from your first entry with it.

What stands out for me in your shot is your use of light. The light and highlights on the cherries and apple are wonderful (over shadowing the banana which is the theme) and the red color dominates the shot. This unfortuneately move the banana to, well, second banana (an expression in the states as the understudy but not the star)

You've filled the frame with a pleasing composition so the overall effect is a lively still life/macro combo that works. My suggestion for improvement: don't have any solid ideas, perhaps a spritz of water, and a crisper apple. This are minor as I, as well as many voters, liked this shot as presented.

If you have any questions, pm me, please!

Regards,
Theresa

Hi Cole,

Greetings from the Critique club...

I like your play on words for the title.. it helps me know where you're going with the shot and it adds a bit of interest to it.

Technically the shot could use an edge(IMHO)-- much of it is oof although that could just be the slime on the bananas :) They appear soft (no pun intended -- really) and for a more domino-like feel some thing must be crisper. The bright light takes almost all the color away - it's flat and so adds no interest by itself. I like the diagonal line as it leads my eye through the shot. The black background is just right to set off the fruit.

I think you have a solid, albeit un-wow-factor shot.

Hope this has been helpful. PM me if you have any questions,

Regards,
Theresa

Creative lighting. I'd like to be able to make out the pointy tips. Good use of negative space

Very well done. The back lighting shows beautiful detail -- I like that you didn't go B&W to keep the color in the stems. Would like a bit crisper on the edges of the left-most lily. One of my favorites this challenge (haveln't looked at many yet so I'll be back to rerate that the end of the challenge!)

Hi Debi

Greeting from the Critique Club...

Congrats on your new DPC personal best in this challenge

You say in your bio that you know how to work natural light and this is a fine example of that. As many of your commenters predicted, I think you did suffer at the hand of the measurement sticklers -- when given a change to differentiate one good shot from another... the photo that follows the rules best gets the nod.

That said, you've created a wonderful composition by tieing in elements that pull my eye throught the frame. The white background offers no distraction and ties in the white from the subject's shirt. The red poles tie in with the subject's arms (all twisted about each other) and connect the bold red with softness of the child.

Her not-quite making eye contact with me has the feel of a candid moment -- you've caught a moment of time of joy "unposed" and something that's universal in the story it tells.

Many of the commenters touched on all my points. I hope you found this useful. Please pm me if you have any questions

Regards,
Theresa
