Really weird image (in a good way weird :-)). I also feel those pieces at the bottom don't add to the image.

The one thing that strikes me from a technical point is the white outline around the bird and the leaves. This could be from back-lighting, but I guess this is a sharpening artifact, which for me is a bit of a letdown in an otherwise very nice image. The leaves have a hairy outer rim. Light was late afternoon but filtered through the foliage. A small amount of sharpening was done (for Web) and it may have emphasised that. I'll keep an eye in future. Thanks for pointing it out!

Not that I am an expert, but I know the plant :-). I think the white on the leaves that are in focus is definitely the edge/hairs on the plant and not an artifact. If I recalll correctly, even to the human eye that edge is light when seen ... "edge on" (is that a word?)

There is some other white artefact as well, perhaps you could get rid of that with DeNoise, don't know. If you use Topaz, there is a slider for "articaft" in the denoise, I would try that one.

For me personally the biggest problem with this picture is the lack of detail in the black feathers. I hear what you say .... :-), as a photograph of the bird I would still like to see more detail.
I like the way you included the plant and I would think, exposing to get detail into the black plumage would probably overexpose the plant ... catch 22 :-)

Congrats on "stalking" him for a week :-) - very patient you are.

Hoover is CUTE! :-). The pose is great. Other than the focus, I would have liked some (different) light on him. Don't think it would have made him any cuter, but IMO, probably made the pic better :-).

I am a sucker for pictures with white BG. This is a nice shot.
I am not sure if I perhaps would have left a bit more space above her head ... just wondering.

I adore mushrooms and pictures of mushrooms. I agree with bassbone, and others, I think close ups would be great. The hand gives an indication of size of course, but I would rather see the mushroom by itself ... just me and my musgroom frenzy ;-). We have a similar type of mushroom here in South Africa which apparently is also edible. Ours starts out looking quite "normal" and then "deteriorates" (matures ;-)) into this black dripping mess. Its quite offputting if you ask me, but apparently delicious to eat ... not so sure ;-)

I like the image as a whole, love the colours and the light framing your daughter. Something is not right for me though, and I can't put my finger on it. I wonder if I would have prefered a bit more cropped off on the right perhaps ... not sure ... something .... (but nobody else said anything, so perhaps I am having a bad morning :-))

This is stunning Harvey. But I also agree on the crop. I usually am quite fond of square crops, but not so much for this one. The green BG provides a wonderful contrast to the bird.

this is stunning Ursula. I was thinking Turner even before I read your description :-).
I LOVE abstarcts, so this is just my type of image.
What "surface" did you have the water on? Very beautiful, I think it would make a stunning print too.
