Local kid pitches perfect game

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Would this appear in a newspaper? - Yes. I like how the title connects directly with the photo.
2) Composition - Good close crop, brings my focus directly to the action.
3) Lighting - The backlight unfortunately puts his face into shadow, sadly, unless this was posed, there's nothing you can do about it during a sports game.
4) Great capture of motion.

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Festival? What festival? I see a girl infront of a wall. Give me an interesting background, if it's a festival shouldn't there be other people there? I don't need to see any details, but lights or something as a backdrop, not concrete.
2) Cute idea, but because of the background it looks like you did this at home, well and the fact that she has a china plate instead of a paper one...
3) The flash lit her up great, but the shadows are too harsh. Good color though.

FABULOUS!
This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Would this appear in a newspaper? - Heck yeah! Perfect front page material.
2) Composition - Great background blur, but it shows that she's in a public place, which makes it seem not so posed. The horizontal crop/orientation is perfect for a paper.
3) Lighting - Great use of natural light.
4) I absolutely love the motion blur and capture of the water. Her expression is great.
5) I like how instead of showing the title litterally you showed how people are "fighting" the heat, I can just imagine this on the front page of a local paper and the article to go along.

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Sounds like a human interest story...where's the human? Oh yeah...there. Crop to the mother and child, let me see the expressions on their faces, I don't care what the home looks like, I care about the people.
2) I like how the little boy is looking at the camera, but...I can't really tell what his face says, if it were cropped to him and his mother, then it'd be a powerful photo.
3) Too much clutter. Is it supposed to represent that they were kicked out? Doesn't work...The basketball hoop especially is distracting.

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Title needs to have a bit of closure, no dropping off a thought for a newspaper article. What does the title have to do with the photo? I know it's of factories and oil stuff, but closing out the title will tell me what I need to see in the picture.
2) The picture needs a focus point. Crop.

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Good title (except for spelling, which I'm sure you've heard about already, just so you know, I read right over it the first couple of times), I like how you connected to current events.
2) Could you crop a little closer? It would give more detail to it all.
3) Up the contrast perhaps to give some detail to the plane, what's the sign on it's tail, is that it's other wing on the bottom or a fin? :) The sky overpowers everything else too much.

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Okay cropping, get rid of the bit of her upper arm that is showing and the glass at the bottom, make the cake piece and their hands central in the frame to bring attetion to them.
2) The cake is blown out and it is distracting.
3) Overall good idea and title, the purple tablecloth adds some nice color, as does the green behind them.

Too general of a picture.:
a- Okay, a man was hit, now why am I seeing numbers in the grass? Add to your title perhaps - "Local man dead after hit-and-run, investigation underway"
b- Crop to something specific like just the left hand side with the surveyor or to some of the numbers, give me a place to focus.

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) Crop to the action! I want to see just one car or one and the other behind it so that I know what is going on from the picture! (Newspaper challenge or not, it's too unfocused/not specific enough.)
2) I can't even see the lead car that well because it's black against black...
3) Good color otherwise.
4) Good sharpness.

This goes in order of what I notice first:
1) (Doesn't affect score) Star Wars reference, nice...
2) Good use of thirds, but for a newspaper article, do you think they would have left that much space unused? It would have been cropped to a couple of the "clones" to make a clear point.
3) It seems too fuzzy, I don't know what from, but it just doesn't look sharpened enough.
4) (this has no affect on the score) Is that a harbor or something flipped upside down??
