if you were looking for a strong reaction, i bet you got one. To me you have managed to dehumanize fellow man. Not sure if that was your intent, but the title is brutal. i believe most street photographers try to capture a scene without bias, you have failed if following the true letter of the challenge was your intent.

your processing is interesting, though a bit over the top as you're starting to loose quality all over the place where you've dodged. segregating the 2 groups from the rest of the photo is also interesting, but i don't feel a strong connection between them. though the guy on the left does seem to have a vested interest in the police activities, i think his meaning needs to be a bit more overt to work. your escaping the quotes, i assume to get them into your title, seems odd as well.

i wish i could describe how this photograph of "a guy sitting on a set of steps" says so much more to me than most of this site's photographers interpretation of "a guy sitting on a set of steps". maybe it's the fact that it's well composed and the lighting is interesting, the black tie mimicing the shadow on the stairs. all makes me want search more deeply if there are even more reasons for studying this scene.

nice processing. i'm not getting hopelessness from this, perhaps i'm misunderstanding your message. actually with the new brick built around the old door way, i'm getting the feeling of a surviving while others try to stop you.

i'm sorry but your's just came after the guy with the patch, which for me so far, is the quintessential street photograph so far in this challenge. yes you've photographed a street scene, and the lighting is interesting, but i need a story or some kind of interaction between parts.

yes, this is the kind of image you try to describe when you try to convince other photographers in the challenge that they missed the boat. "broken headlights"...now if only the right one was broken and the other was still intact ;)

i like how the 1 dog is staring at the camera, while he isn't. as i look through this challenge, i'm seeing tons of these images of people on the street, that still don't convey "cartier-bresson" like imagery. there's just something more this image needs to take it to the next level.

interesting lighting. really like how the smoke is encircling him. as far as street-like, his environment of just the grill doesn't feel global enough to me to really fit the category. still feels more like just a portrait. still a nice image
