Skimby HawkinsTComment: Thanks for all the constructive and positive comments! james_so pretty much hit the nail on the head and for that reason I don't mind the score at all. Hopefully next time I can find the time to shoot FOR a challenge, instead of the other way around =).
And chinajoe: If you wish to make a criticism, please do it in a constructive way (which I will happily take on board). As it stands I fail to see how my image; showing a stone in the air, fails to meet the criteria when your image; showing popcorn in the air, does. the only difference is the closer crop on yours which can be argued makes your image meet the challenge better, but both images ultimately represent a similar occurrence and so must both meet criteria or neither, no? My guess is however, that you spent more time copy/pasting the rules in to my image than actually looking at the image, and so failed to see the stone. |

Frozenby HawkinsTComment: Cheers for all the comments, and thanks JuliBoc - you're right, the problem was the vignette. Unfortunately I assumed basic editing meant "can use any of the sliders in lightroom"... now I have carefully read through the rules and know better so hopefully this will be my last dq for a while =). Rather annoyingly in retrospect I prefer this image edited a little differently without any vignetting but ah well.
aKiwi: I agree, when taking the picture I was thinking exactly the same thing, although unfortunately I'm not sure I was meant to be there or taking pictures so I didn't have much of a choice in the matter :<. |

Jeronimoooooby EpsiComment: I'm confused why there's a small white border on 3 sides of the image, each being a different thickness, almost as though it's an image of an image... but I guess there's a more reasonable explanation, presumably with how this image was post processed. Anyway, I don't know if that noise is an effect of post processing, but looks a lot like the image was just massively cropped in - but either way with the black and white I think it really works here, I like it - just those white borders annoy me =). |

Where's the Balloon?by alexlkyComment: I think it's a great image but the softness/focus spoils it for me, it looks like it was perhaps cropped from the side of a super wide angle? Perhaps though it's a limitation of the camera used. Whatever the case the framing is still good, as was your eye when taking this shot. |

Outdoor explorerby NiallOTuamaComment: So it looks like your image suffered from a similar problem to mine. As you said, 'happy sunshine in garden image' appears to be the key to this challenge. Actually the first time I glanced at this I thought it was a fly sitting on someone's leg in a plaster cast... maybe some others didn't look a little closer before voting =). It's a nice image though, the petal has a great texture to it and the dof is just right, much better than a number of the images that scored better. Message edited by author 2011-05-29 14:12:39. |

Bombus lucorumby HawkinsTComment: Thanks Niall (and everyone else for your comments). I'm perfectly happy with this score for this image, I knew it wouldn't score highly, I actually guessed it'd be around 4.8 at the start of the challenge. And I guess since you beat me by .1 in the last challenge it's fair I beat you by .1 this time =). |
