Hot Shotsby KarenNfldComment: i'm not sure if this is the case or not, but it makes sense in my head:
for black/black without light reflections, you could use a piece of glass/acrylic that is lit from below. If you have a black card as your background it should reflect and create the black/black look, with intense color inside the glasses, and just a bit of a hairlight.
here's something I found:

All Mixed Upby TEBComment: the colors are interesting, as is the 'shot from above' perspective, but the lighting leaves a lot to be desired, it's a bit splotchy all over, and doesn't really help emphasize the composition at all. |

Blue+Yellow=Greenby nickybComment: with this same title, it could have been interesting if the blue and yellow liquid were pouring and being combined to make a new green liquid.
as it sits now, i find the back light to be really distracting. it looks like a huge alien head staring at me as I vote. |

One for me, One for you. CHEERS!by Eagle40Fox2Comment: this seems nicely lit, but compositionally feels a bit flat. everything seems to be on the same visual plane, and treated as being equally important. The tilted bottle is a nice touch to try and make it more dynamic, but it's pushed so far forward in the visual plane that it makes me unsure of what the true focal point is supposed to be. |

new glassesby snsComment: for a shot like this, there's a bit of an expectation that everything is perfect. It's a funny idea, but there's a few things formally that bring it down for me. The shot glasses being just a bit crooked is slightly bothersome, and I find the clothing choices (jacket with reflective zipper, metallic jewellery and a button down shirt) to take attention away from the face and quirky intentions. |

Two shots of bourbonby leidingComment: one and a half shots of bourbon.
the big thing about this shot that's irking me is that the angled glasses aren't angled enough to feel intentional. I like the wooden texture, and I don't even mind the hard lighting. |

Simplicityby manavgComment: I don't know how to quite describe this. It feels so... smooth. I like that it's not on pure white and the cool tones in this. There's a hair, or scratch on the left side that I'm feeling a bit OCD about (and lower right corner).
focus is great, as is the rim light on the vertical glass.
good job. |

Not for the Faint Heartedby franktheyankComment: When I think whiskey, I think of color, so I find it strange to have a black and white scene.
the juxtaposition of elegant glass/stonework, combined with the rough & tough stereotype of whiskey drinkers, and the strange demonic little figurine is interesting, but also a bit confusing. I can see the relationsip between the alcohol and figurine, but I don't quite buy the floor.
on a formal note, lighting is beautiful. |
