Not bad. I'm glad you have a background to your shot. It gives me something to focus on which you have executed splendidly well. 8

I'd say there is too little depth of field in this shot. Because they are too small in the frame I don't find the fly's eyes that interesting to be the only point emphasized by focus. 5

In order for DOF to half impact you need some background to emphasize the separation. It's a nice shot and the foreground is soft but that where the impact stops because the framing is too tight on the subject.

Nice detail, colour and isolation. I thought there would have been a lot more views like this in the competition but yours was the shining example. In my top 3 of voting.

I like the image. it seems timeless but I don't see how you've made effective use of any rectangular shape. "where this basic shape is clearly shown as a key element" To me the framing of the doorway doesn't really count as it isn't really the key element. 5

There was just something about this image that said mycelium to me. Glad to see my senses are sharp. There is something about the appeal of this image that goes beyond easy description. Is it the even balance of tonality caused by the consistent contrast between shadow and highlights? Is it the repetitive pattern disrupted by jagged edges? Is it the points of chaos amidst the order?
