Cedar Sunriseby NitenComment: Sorry to see that this didn't rank higher. It is a beautiful shot. Perhaps the bottom half is a bit too heavy. You can't really crop from it without losing the proportion though because you wouldn't want to crop any from the sides. Nice use of negative space. I love the colors. |

Beauty in the Gardenby TerryGeeComment: I have to sort of agree with Kevin in that the negative space isn't adding a lot to the shot IMO. You also have to keep in mind that many voters think of negative space as just plain empty space which may account for a few of those low votes. At least there aren't any 1s! I'll admit that I gave this picture a 5. Technically it IS good, but it just doesn't have enough "wow" to make it stand out. Everyone should remember that a good competition shot isn't always the same as just a great picture. You have to grab the voters.
(This also looks like a moth, and I hate moths :P ) |

Foxglove teardropby dasserComment: beautiful shot! love the dof and color. IMO this isn't exactly an example of negative space because the background is so primary.. more like a second subject. Anyway, it's still a lot better than most of these pics. |

Winter in Hollandby peterdehaanComment: Just to clarify... Did you take this within the specified time frame? I just ask because I didn't know they had snow in Holland in August. |

Summerby Dim7Comment: It's a bit noisy. High ISO? I'd ry neat image or something to help that and crop off the left and top some. The red flowers and bird are all that's necessary. The rest is distracting. Nice capture! |

Summer Droughtby HavokComment: cropped too tightly IMO. I'd prefer more space on the right side and bottom. Great texture and detail though. Nice lighting too. Getting a lit subject and all black background isn't easy. |

Sunday afternoonby Ilona57Comment: I really like IR filters. Very cool look to this shot, esp the sky. I'd rather see it without all the distractions on the ground. They're too small and far away to really add much IMO, and that beautiful tree is too centered. I like how the trees along the side frame it though. |

Last day of the summerby skalman69Comment: The sun glare in the center is bothersome. Pros use lens hoods, but I use my hand to shade the lens.. or just find a different spot. Also a bit underexposed due to the direction of the sun. Interesting capture. Just spent the day in the Stockholm archipelago, and when I see this I think BRRRrrrrr :) |

summer pestsby bumble1Comment: make it BIGGER.. really, having a small pic will make some ppl give u a lower score automatically. I think the shot is cool, but can't say much about the quality at this size. Keep in mind that some ppl also use different resolution monitors so use the full 640 you're allowed. Great color and dof from what I can see. |
