Just a light rainby jjbeguinComment: I love this image very much as a photograph, however reflections is not exactly what dominates in this picture. There are some very dark ones due to the wet ground, but again they don't speak too loud and I am afraid just because of that this image may not receive the score it truly deserves (as an image overall). I am not casting a vote on this image, but again, love it very much as a photograph. Love the mood you have created with your post-processing. |

Spiraling Down by AllenPComment: Thanks! I shot this with a wide angle lens all the way zoomed out to 16mm. The aperture was at f/8. You get more depth of field with wider angles and of couse at 16mm with an aperture setting of f/8, you should pretty much be able to get great sharpness throughout your image. The shutter speed wasn't that great, only at 1/60 sec, but I have pretty steady hands so it wasn't a problem. As for sharpening in post, I sharpened the image first, then ran it through noise ninja to reduce the noise a little bit.

Chugging Alongby AllenPComment: Originally posted by Aleema: Very nice textures but im not sure i love it, i think its the either the lack of detail in the mountains or maybe the boat taking away from the naturalness of the scene ? |
Well, the boat is the main subject of my photograph as the title suggests, therefore I have given extra treatment to it. As for the details in the mountains, I agree, however there was nothing I could have done since there was a strong haze covering them. |

Cold & Stillby orvaratliComment: Hi Örvar,
Stunning image. I am blown away by its sharpness and clarity. You say that you shot this at f/2.8. The image looks sharp all the way from the foreground to the background. Did you expose for the mountains and the foreground at a much higher f number like f/16 or so and combined multiple images together or was the whole scene exposed at f/2.8 once? I know this is shot at wide angle but still at f/2.8, it looks crazy sharp throughout. Another question ... did you have to use an adapter to fit the Nikon lens to your 5D Mark II? If so, what is it? Well done, blue in my book and should have scored in the high 7's or even into 8's. I guess a lot of people may have thought that they have seen too much of the Aurora, however that doesn't take anything away from the greatness of this image. Wish you much success with your new lens. |

Boy with a good "head" on his shoulders likes to play with a "ball"by AllenPComment: Originally posted by dahlin: This shot was in my top 2. Nicely processed. I loved the selective desat. Very well done. |
Thanks! It seems like most people didn't think this image fits the challenge as well as some of the others did despite liking it as a photograph. Message edited by author 2011-03-31 19:02:19. |
