Thanks for the comments. I thought that toning down the contrast gave the dress shoes a duller, more lonely feel. From the comments... that was the wrong thing to do. If I had been allowed to take just the Keds and add contrast to them alone I would have to make them pop but this was basic editing. Is there a way to do that either in basic editing or in taking the photo that I could have done to create that effect? A trick with with lighting? Open for suggestions and critique.

This captured my attention. Some of the othere photos entered I could tell what it was. I can't identify this one which was part of the challenge. I like how the focused shapes are not in a row but more zigzaged and how the light hits in a straight line on each. Like the title because it does look like some kind of creature's mouth.
