This photo caught my eye at the very opening and I really like the colors and the way the whole face fills the photo. The light flare even adds a very nice element..One of my 10 best this week ...hokie

Thanks for voting.

If you looked at my photo outtakes you could see I had lots of obvious cast shadow pictures. What I saw in this shot was what happens when shadows within the contour of an object transform what we see into something neat..like turning a bath sponge into a delicate rose with petals.

The reflection on the surface of the bathtub is just that..A reflection and was not supposed to be considered the shadow element. The shadow play 'INSIDE' the sponge makes the edges into petals and the Depth of Field within the "Rose".

Anyway, just another way to look at what is a shadow.

Thanks for all th comments folks.

A little about the photo.

Ever drive along th highway and see that heat blur rising off the pavement? As a kid we called that the Asphale Mirage and thus my name :-)

When I think of mirages I think desert/camels etc. so..I found a cool shot of a camel and a stock desert scene with a road in it and put them in photoshop and made a composite image. I knew in advance I needed a genreic blu sky so I leveld the composite to give me a dsert with a blue sky.

Then I took my compostie image and placed it in front of a mirror board that has texture to it so I got a mirror image that was slightly distorted. I then took that image into photoshop, gave it a slight water blur and printed onto photo card stock.

The idea of tearing the top of the art came to me on the drive to the location to shoot. I saw the clouds overhead and wanted to blend the photo into the real clouds. I tried to get some nice white edging to show on the card stock to give a cloud edge effect.

After gettng to my location ( a nice quite school parking lot ) I arranged my elements. The knife is an artist tool for cutting in straight lines to paintings. I figured some of the voters might not have painting experience and not know why I used a knife. Also the refldctive surface of the knife caught the clouds too!

I actually used more paint than I wanted and I didn't get to really blend the paint into the road stripe of the photo as well as I wanted. Trying to do a studio style shot in the middle of a real road surface was a challenge in itself!

I can imagine the looks I got of me laying in the middle of the road wating for the clouds to move overhead into just the right postion. :-)

Kimbly...your best effort by far and one of my favorites this week...I gave it a 9.

You could have backed off a bit and got her (your?} elbow in there but thats a nit.

You keep this up and we'll be seeing your photos on the magazines before long :-)

BTW I cut my own hair (what little I have left) and Ted Turner cuts his own hair!!

Great photo:-) You did with your eye photo what I could not with mine. Capture their imagination. You did a better job of getting the clarity right on the eye as well. Thanks for the tip of breaking a CD case for the glass effect. It works and I will definitely be stealing that idea :-)
Great photo again :-)

The pregnant factor just added to a good capture. I think I would have liked this photo whether it was a pregnant woman or a beer belly man. It's not perfect technically to MY eye but I am true to my word in that there is more to photography than just my technical perception....one of my four 10's this week.

Yah!! Kollin.

I must say Kollin, this model owes you a great debt because this is one nice photo you gave her.

I am not one to mess with a photograph..it is what it is. But I wonder what she would have looked like laying on a white background..allowing her hair to really be seen. Would have it ruined the nice , dark shadows? Hard to say. But I find this photo very good regardless.
