Eye Contactby hokieComment: I was doing some shooting at a stables near my house. The local colleges are coming back to school and one of them uses this stable for boarding a lot of show jumping horses. So, I though I might catch some nice action shots. The day was a bit gloomy and misty (the reason for the gray skies in all the photos) so most of the horses were just hanging out..not all that active. Except for this one magnificant horse. He was in a work out yard just dancing and acting up. I have a sucky action camera (G2) so I wasn't able to get some incredible jump shots. The owner (the man in my photo) came out to calm the horse down. The horses name is Chance and is an ex-thouroughbred race horse and he gets a bit high strung. Well, this horse is also known for head butting people if he can get close enough. I was about..oh 20 feet away watching this struggle between the man and the horse trying to head butt him. Finally, the man said in a stern voice "Chance..enough with the head butts!!" and glared right at the horse. Thats the shot!! That horse and that guy looked at each other for about a minute..and he calmed down. :-) |

Small Timberby hokieComment: Thanks to the folks that liked this. I was taking some nature photos on a walk one day, stuck the pencil in the ground...took about 20 photos at various angles and on the last photo this little ant crawled up the side of the pencil just as I snapped the shutter. He literally ran up the side so fast he was gone before I could get another shot off!!! Woah! Just lucky this one and only photo was in focus!! Don't you just love photography like that :-) |

Abandonedby hokieComment: Thanks for the votes and the comments. The word Abandonded was teh subject of my photo. The warehouse was used as an atmosphere background and the "OLD" weed ...in weed years :-)... was the entry to the photo. Photography for me is as much about emotion transformed to shapes as it is about absolute literal images of objects we can easily classify, stereotype and file away. The emotion of Abandonded is the desolation, the left behind and forgotten idea but the beauty of a nice summer day should still be evident in a very quite part of an old warehouse facility. Not just a photo of an old building with broken windows. :-) |

Rat's Nestby CPatteeComment: I am one of the folks here that probably doesn't go for the wallpaper, full frame photo of texture as much as a having a subject like a ball of yarn filling a portion of the frame with depth of feild providing a background. I realize this is personal preference. That being said..I really like the colors here and think there is a tremendous potential in the subject...5..hokie |
