The Tornado

Perhaps a lower point of view would have made this have more impact and connection with your title. If it were to tower over the camera it would give more of the dangerous feel of a real tornado... 7

While this isn't what I think would necessarily win on this site, I would be proud to hang it on my wall. It's very simple and full of detail. You've made such an ordinary object look interesting... 10

"For backlighting, I resurrected two old Honeywell Strobonar 200's - one aimed into the back of the lantern from just below the covered stool on which I placed the lantern."

I'd like to see what you would get with just this lighting. Eliminating the front lighting which far overpowered the back would make for a far more effective backlighting photo. Otherwise, because it was such a quality photo to begin with I gave you a 7. Had this been in a still life challenge, you would have gotten a 10 from me.

I came back to see how this had done and just had to say something about the "silhouette" comments. On my monitor, it is not a silhouette. I think some people may need to adjust their monitors. If you can't see the full range on the bar at the bottom of the screen when voting (and a distinct line between each shade) then you need to make some adjustments.
