The desaturation here seems to be the 'because I can' variety. There are some interesting textures here, which a sharper focus would have helped to accentuate.

I love the pose (which the title nicely emphasizes), but a sharper focus / higher shutter speed would have helped make this image really stand out. I find the aggressive crop at the bottom a bit distracting. A little more negative space to the left would have been nice.

A deeper DOF would have helped this image, as would a slightly sharper focus. The USM artifacts and the obvious halo around the sign are distracting.

The rich colors make this stand out from the other pictures of robins and sparrows. The focus on the bird could have been a little bit sharper though; the focus seems to center on the bird's perch.

I find the odd color cast and the sharpening artifacts rather distracting. Rendering this in b&w would have preserved the textures and detail without making me wonder whether there's such a thing as a salmon bird.

the focus here is far too soft, and emphasizes the branches more than the bird

The focus on the bird's eye and beak seems rather soft. An angle which accentuated rather than minimized his face would have made the photo more interesting.

This would be a stronger image if there was some strong feature visible besides feathers (a beak, a well-defined eye, etc.).

I went to high school with a guy who looked a lot like this. On a technical note, the DOF is a little shallow for my tastes; I'd prefer to see his eyes in sharp focus as well.

This is a good picture, but sadly it's rather cliché; this is at least the 3rd image of a flamingo with a nearly identical pose that I've rated so far in this challenge. There seems to be an unusual amount of noise in this image, particularly noticeable on his beak. Perhaps shooting at a lower ISO speed would help.
