This image is a clear favorite to take a ribbon. Strong, purposeful with no major flaws to speak of and the minor issues are not relevant to the image's overall impact. Crisp and sharp, the author made a concerted effort to compose and capture a mood that works very well - even the action of the cloth is perfect and the model's action and expression are perfect. An image with a lot of visual impact and detail. This would do well in any competition themed or not. A personal favorite of this reviewer. If there were any justice in the world, this would be a blue ribbon. Well done.

From a technical standpoint, this is an average effort being overly dark. From an artistic standpoint, it's rather bland and uninviting to the viewer. Sometimes an image is just an image - a little more thought into composing this and using good lighting techniques such as a long flash or maybe even bouncing a flash to help the mood would have been a better choice. A longer exposure time might have been a plus. A good effort falling short in the artistic sense.

From an artistic standpoint, it's rather bland and uninviting to the viewer. This might have been a good image to experiment with using sepia or other monotone technique to "antique" it and increase the visual impact and match the sometimes imprecise lens and glass plate effect. In this case, the less than precise focus hurts it's visual impact and from a technical standpoint, the lighting could have been better controlled. A good effort falling short in the artistic and technical sense. A little more thought in presentation would have been in order. The author should be encouraged to experiment with the image as mentioned above and enter this image into a print contest - it would probably be a winner.

This flaw affects the image from an artistic standpoint, it's rather bland and uninviting to the viewer. Sometimes an image is just an image and author's need to recognise that.
