A natural setting, natural and common action captured perfectly. Very effective use of foreground lighting to enhance the hand and provide detail. A great flame capture, this black and white treatment is a solid demonstration of how to control light and properly treat an image. Well done.

Beautiful and natural, highly detailed and effective use of ambient lighting. A view of the natural world only seen in the American South West. The highlights are right on the edge of being overdone which demonstrates technical competance with ambient light. A top twenty image.

A natural setting and natural light only seen during certain times of the year. A good demonstration of how light affects the natural world and images in general. The only flaw is the darker section which detracts from the overall effect. A crop from the right would have helped. A good entry into the challenge and a potential top twenty.

Slightly overdone whites and more detail than is needed to demonstrate effective use of lighting. A different angle would have been a plus and a less subject with a closer viewpoint would have also helped. A good demonstration of angled natural light.

An effective use of natural lighting, the flower displays excellant detail - a very natural setting. It might have been more impressive if some of the background details were missing. A good entry demonstrating technical control of the subject matter.

A little better lighting control reducing the highlights would have been a plus. Not an overly interesting image from an artistic sense, it does provide a lot of detail and color differences. A little more thought into the composition would have made for a better image. A good entry into the challenge, it falls just short of being truly effective. Perhaps a little change in viewing angle would have helped.

Much too busy to be effective, the motion is completely overdone and has literally no impact on the viewer. The author's intent was clear, but the whole process of capturing this type of image needed more thought. Not a success from a technical or artistic standpoint. A more head on approach to this type of image would have been better and much more effective - a need for more definite shape in the train blending into the rather abstract background is needed.

From a technical standpoint, this is a terrific effort - crisp, sharp with everything detail well controlled and captured. From an artistic standpoint, it's rather bland and uninviting to the viewer. Sometimes an image, even one as technically competant as this one is, is just an image. A good effort falling short in the artistic sense.

From a technical standpoint, this is a terrific effort - crisp, sharp with everything detail well controlled and captured. From an artistic standpoint, it appears at first to be overly dark, but on a third viewing, it would appear that the author captured the essence of abandoned warehouses. It is very similar to cut scenes in action movies. The author might want to experiment with this image a little in the future by adjusting curves or even experimenting with different monotone techniques or tone mapping.

Comment:
The combination of linear and curved shapes make this a very intriguing and effective image. Good solid lighting control and the author avoided the temptation to over expose to capture more than necessary. A success from a technical and artistic standpoint, the author might be well served to experiment with black and white, grayscale and/or antiquing treatment for print competitions - this would work well in any of the genres. Well done.
